November 1993, Andrew Chard and Barry Manners combine forces with the aim of offering a vastly better lettings service than those already in existence. Both founders had a background in customer service. Both were landlords, seriously dissatisfied with the inadequate, antiquated services then on offer from lettings agents.
13 years later, it has a staff of more than 100 and over 2000 properties on its books.

Early 1994, Chard has 3 negotiators and moves into premises on High Street Kensington. Recognising the secret of success is creating a smooth and seamless match between the landlord, the tenant and the property. Chard begins to get high-end instructions and strives to take as much care with modest one bedroom flats letting at £200 a week as with imposing mansions on offer at £15,000 per week.

Mid 1994 Chard moves to Notting Hill Gate (190 Campden Hill Road, now the Notting Hill & Kensington lettings branch office).

Late 1996 South Kensington Office opens. Chard decided to operate differently from most other lettings agents, taking fees quarterly rather than yearly upfront.

Mid 1998 Pimlico office opens.

Once the company takes a property onto its books, it keeps landlords fully informed of progress and makes recommendations to ensure a minimum vacant period.

Early 1999 Fulham office opens, Chard keeps on growing.

Early 2004, Chard launches the sales business. Gareth Jones is appointed Managing Director of Chard sales. He brings to Chard considerable experience of the sales market in Notting Hill, Holland Park and West London generally and aims to transfer the best things about the successful lettings business to the fledgling sales business.

Mid 2005, Brook Green lettings office opened. The company begins a westward expansion after demand for an office in Brook Green reaches fever pitch.

Early 2006, 'Eco-friendly' Toyota Prius fleet launches. Chard takes delivery of the first vehicles from its new 'green' fleet- the company's decision to phase in an environmentally friendly fleet.

In December 2006 Chard Sales joined the Ombudsman for Estate Agents scheme - an independent service to resolve disputes between estate agents and their clients and customers.
